Elect Joshua Correa for Placentia City Council District 1, a father & trusted community advocate
When Joshua returned from college in New York & Ohio he saw a city struggling to address homelessness, and financial crisis with its community services slashed. Joshua got to work within a month of returning in 2013 and addressed issues that divided the community. Specifically the placement of the digital billboards, the gang injunctions, and then Navigation Hub homeless shelter. These efforts all placed Joshua between the City and vulnerable neighbors in the community, to answer questions like:
Should one community shoulder the financial responsibility to pay the salaries of then 7 senior positions with redundancies?
When considering gang prevention measures, do we consider their families and loved ones? Is it worth it to "stop and frisk" suspected gang members at the cost of our teens being harassed? Does past involvement in gang activity merit a lifetime label and movement restrictions?
At the beginning of Covid Joshua was asking is it safe to fill up a 100 bed shelter when the world is calling for distance? (or cause delays to the new development on Crowther) What about the 150 students who do not qualify for bussing and walk past the shelter? What commitment is the City taking after back tracking on the facility being a "closed shelter" like Bridges on Kraemer Place?
You see regardless of your position, their are questions that need to be addressed that others seem disinterested in answering.
Joshua was tired of the City not addressing these type of questions and enraging its citizens. He did not want to constantly fight the City. He has always stated that he is here to build.
The Placentia Painting Project is 32 pieces in & around Placentia to cultivate a more positive view of Placentia, to stir up support and connect with community members who want to build.
Joshua loves seeing residents taking up causes before city hall, but Joshua cherishes those who want to see & participate with a thriving community. He has worked with North County Project, Placentia Collaborative, LOT 318, The Yorba Linda Arts Alliance to name a few of the organizations looking to build a stronger community.
Joshua Correa worked with Joe Parra & the Hernandez-Trujillo to restore the Atwood Mural.
They built 33 homes with grant funding for their community, they created the Parque de Los Ninos and Gomez Center. Before commissioning the Atwood Mural from Manuel Hernandez-Trujillo who worked with the community to paint it.
We restored the mural in 7 months on budget with 13 artists participating and over 150 volunteers. Although this effort is not over. Parque de Los Ninos just received some updated playground equipment and LOT 318's continued investment into the maintenance & functionality of the facility could not be understated. There is great possibility to improve all our parks. Can you imagine if our parks were cultivated like those in Irvine, but filled with culture & heritage that make up Placentia?
