Elect Joshua Correa for Placentia City Council District 1, a father & trusted community advocate
There are several issues around the train station and most of the questions are "when will we actually get a station?" The complicated part of this equation is it's not up to the City or the County. The line is owned by BNFS railroad. BNFS expanded the rail lines and made promises to cities and past board members to allow the station. 10 years ago that line was projected to increase drastically with freight passing through every 5 minutes. The gateway project delays have limited that expected growth for the time being, but unless we are looking to invest or benefit BNFS, it will continue to be something our City will not see materialize.
However, I hope that Placentia residents understand that what has been proposed is not a full station, but a stop with a few times that may take you to LA or Riverside. So please temper your expectations. There are more issues surrounding how this train station will impact Placentia residents once the bullet train to Anaheim from Vegas is completed. There is the good of tourism that may impact Placentia, such as with the 2028 LA Olympics, but there is also the concern for increased crime and human trafficking if public lines increase without oversight. Orange County will be a through line between Las Vegas and Tijuana. I will take this opportunity to prepare a response to trafficking, urging the Collaborative & local clergy to join me.
We had several fiscal challenges over the years and have seen the programing shrink and be outsourced to third parties. As we become more stable financially as a municipality, I ask for suggestions for programing you would like to see. Increasing programing will have a great impact on getting the community active and participating in local governance. If we spend our time and dollars here in Placentia, then we will talk about Placentia with others who are also committed to this city. We have some great parks and people, what else do we need in the mix?
Placentia has a train, two free ways, industrial buildings, and a nearby power plant. Joshua monitors the air quality for his family and his two daughters. District 1 suffers from poor air quality and too much toxic exposure. It is part of councils job to take a holistic look at what projects are proposed and allowed. A neighbor understands it is not worth allowing further developments that threaten our health. Our children already have too many headaches to deal with.
